Nick McKay wins place on
prestigious national leadership
program.
Local apprentices have recently won a trifecta of awards including a place on a prestigious national leadership program in Canberra with the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister.

Three apprentices employed by NovaSkill and hosted by  Coal and Allied have been successful in recent national, state and local award ceremonies.  Nick McKay from Lorn, a fourth year Electrical apprentice working at Coal and Allied’s Hunter Valley Operations facility, has been invited to attend the Today’s Skills Tomorrow’s Leaders program run by Group Training Australia in Canberra next month.

Only 20 apprentices from throughout Australia are invited to attend this exclusive program held at the Australian Institute of Sport, which will be launched by the Governor General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC at Government House on 17th August.  The Today’s Skills Tomorrow’s Leaders program focuses on developing the leadership capabilities of the participants to assist them in their career and personal achievements.  During the week long program the participants will be involved in workshops with elite athletes, have the opportunity to visit Parliament house and meet with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

Mr Phil Peterson, Group Training Manager from NovaSkill said “Nick winning a place on this program is a wonderful achievement and will be an opportunity of a lifetime for him.  Both NovaSkill and Coal and Allied are very proud and pleased for Nick and it is great to see a local young man be given this opportunity.”

Luke Thrift a local apprentice from Branxton has also received recognition for his achievements recently.  Luke a 4th year Automotive apprentice won the NSW TAFE State Medal for the Heavy Vehicle trade.  To earn this medal Luke has consistently achieved the highest marks in all trade subjects in Certificate III trade studies at Kurri TAFE.

Finally to finish off the trifecta of high achievers Clint Mungoven from Gilleston Heights also a NovaSkill apprentice working at Coal and Allied has scored the Kurri Kurri TAFE Award for Academic Excellence.    Mr Peterson said of all three young men “These young men have shown great dedication to their trade and studies and it is wonderful to see all their hard work recognised.  Their commitment  to the pursuit of excellence and furthering their career will mean they will be young men to watch in the future.”
