Dean Roberts a 2nd year apprentice in Construction Carpentry, employed by NovaSkill and hosted by Ballina Shire Council has won the Young Achiever of the year award.
Dean commenced his apprenticeship as a school based apprentice and quickly learnt how to balance his workdays and HSC studies, successfully completing his HSC in 2008.
As well as juggling school Dean made his own way to work on his pushbike for a 6am start in rain, hail or shine and to his credit was always on time. He shows respect to his peers and is always enthusiastic and willing to learn.
Ward Gunn Dean's NovaSkill field officer says "Although Dean experienced some personal hardship whilst completing his HSC studies he remained focused on his career and faced every challenge head on and with maturity. He successfully managed the completion of his HSC as well as the school based apprenticeship on the job requirements. Dean's work ethic and commitment is highly regarded by his peers and supervisors."
Dean is now midway through the second year of his apprenticeship and is required to attend Newcastle TAFE for block release attendance. His TAFE teacher reports taht Dean has done exceptionally well in his studies and is a commendable apprentice who is very dilligent with his TAFE projects.
In summary Dean has faced difficult times and has not only managed he has thrived in this environment. Dean never complains and is well on his way to being a trades qualified Construction Carpenter and a asset to the community. Dean is the quiet achiever that today represents the Aussie battler that succeeds.
Well done Dean - keep up the great work!
